Klaus Obermaier – direction, video art, composition
Klaus Obermaier, who studied music at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and also studied visual arts, has developed into an expert for interactive and cross-media art as well as electronic music.
He created and directed the interactive dance work APPARITION, which was premiered at the Ars Electronica Festival 2004 and is touring world-wide. In 2006 he staged and choreographed the highly acclaimed version of LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS for the opening of the Bruckner Fest, including interactive dance and orchestra as well as stereoscopic indoor and outdoor projections for approx. 10000 people.
His intermedia works "jobOpera“ and "actOpera" were presented in 1998 and 2000 as the "Linzer Klangwolke“, one of Europe‘s biggest annual outdoor multi-media events for approx. 70.000 people.
Apart from presenting his original works and compositions at international festivals and on tours in many parts of the world, he has played with the ENSEMBLE MODERN, one of the leading ensembles for contemporary music, and composed music for such disparate musicians as the KRONOS QUARTET, ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO, DEUTSCHE KAMMERPHILHARMONIE, BALANESCU QUARTET ...
He worked with dancers and choreographers like Chris Haring, Robert Tannion (DV8), Desiree Kongerod (S.O.A.P.), Tanz*Hotel and members of the NEDERLANDS DANS THEATER.
His media installations are shown at galleries and festivals in Europe and USA.
He gives lectures at international universities and institutions. Since 2006 he is visiting professor at the University IUAV of Venice teaching new media in dance, music and theatre performances.
Chris Haring – choreography, dance
Worked together with international choreographers and groups like DV8 Physical Theatre (Lloyd Newson/GB), Nikolai/Luis Dance Cie. (USA), man act (GB), Nigel Charnock (GB), Pilottanzt (A), Tanz*Hotel (A), Willi Dorner (A) amongst others.
In his own choreography above all he conceives of the technique-saturated body as the core of new artistic developments, functionally as well as in regard to the aesthetics of movement. Together with the multi-media artist and composer Klaus Obermaier he developed the video-dance performances “D.A.V.E.” and “VIVISECTOR” that have been played all over Europe and in Asia, the USA and Australia with great success.
His 2003 production of “FREMDKÖRPER” is strongly influenced by science fiction and shows the body as a cybernetic landscape (premiere: October 2003 Tanzquartier Wien. 2004: “best performance”, Biennale de la Danse Lyon.) In 2004 he choreographed the solo “Legal Errorist” (stage performance and film/Mara Mattuschka) and for ImPulsTanz the duo “…diese Körper, diese Spielverderber…[…this body, this spoilsport…]. The new pieces kind of heroes (premiered in Burgtheater Vienna 5/2005) and „my private bodyshop“, (premiered in October 2005 at Tanzquartier Vienna.), were presented as a leading Austria dance work in Brussels during the EU president ship and also shown at the Tanzplattform 2/2006.
